Critical illness cover pays out a tax free lump sum on the diagnosis of a critical illness such as cancer or heart attack.
There are more than 30 kinds of critical illness and all policies normally cover seven core conditions of cancer, coronary artery bypass, heart attack, kidney failure, major organ transplant, multiple sclerosis and stroke. If you become permanently disabled from injury or illness they will also payout.
Not all conditions are covered and policies do vary so advice from an expert is critical! Some will payout if you cannot follow any occupation and others if you cannot follow your occupation.
You must normally survive one month following the diagnosis before the policy will payout.
